Bluff, Utah
We stayed in Bluff on our way to Monument Valley (from the Rockies). You’d think being the gateway to such a tourist spot it would be reasonably large. No. This place is tiny. One coffee shop, a couple of art studios as being well immersed in the desert environment seems to inspire people - but all I saw were rocks and more rocks. So when we reached Bluff I was (I have to admit it) a little over yellow, rocks and heat.
However, as with any place I guess, you have to wait until the sun sets for a place to show its beauty and this for me couldn’t have been less true for Bluff. The colours that came off those rocks, off the stream hidden between them and all against the changing sky itself was awesome. And the fact that this was happening as we wandered the ‘streets’ (no need for gutters or picket fences here) of this tiny dot of a place was pretty cool in an eerie, precious sort of way. Secretly, I would have stayed longer just for another sunset in Bluff.
The town also managed to have one of the coolest cafe’s I’ve ever been too - art, coffee, books and desert inspired jewelry. The place was for sale. Hmmmmm…
